Neil Robertson, The Thunder from Down Under
Have you heard of the Thunder from Down Under or his other nicknames the Melbourne Machine or Robocop?
Well if you haven’t, read on to find out why this very fine and striking Australian Sportsperson is without any shadow of a doubt already one of our greatest ever and he’s only 34 years old.
Neil Robertson is a Professional Snooker player phenomenon who in 2010 won the World Snooker Championship and later that year became the World’s Number One ranked player.
Testament to his incredible talent he also attained the Top World ranking in 2013 and 2014.
Born 11 February 1982, Robertson entered the World Professional ranks with his shock of blonde hair back in 2006/07 season
His immense talent became undeniably evident when as a 14-year-old, became the youngest player to make a century break in an Australian ranking event.
Two years later he turned pro and in 2003 began to make ripples on the International stage by winning the World Under Under-21 Snooker Championship in New Zealand
The following season he moved into the top 32 of world rankings and then 12 months later was in the top 16 before a historic breakthrough win in the 2006/07 season.
He became the first ever Australian to win a professional ranking tournament, the 2006 Royal London Watches Grand Prix on 29 October in Aberdeen, Scotland.
In taking out the tournament he disposed of Ronnie O’Sullivan 5–1 in the quarter-finals, Alan McManus 6–2 in the semis then Jamie Cope 9–5 in the final.
Robertson has now won 11 Rankings Tournaments and has been runner-up seven times.

- 2013 UK Championship defeated England’s Mark Selby 10–7
- 2014 Wuxi Classic defeated England’s Joe Perry 10–9
- 2015 UK Championship defeated China’s Liang Wenbo 10–5

As of May 2nd, Robertson is currently ranked fifth in the world with career winning of just over $6.1 million and climbing!
Married to Norwegian girl Mille, they’ll celebrate their son Alexander’s sixth birthday on May 12, 2016.
Neil Robertson is a remarkable story and is rightfully regarded as Australia’s best ever Snooker players which is by no means any lack of respect to the great Walter Lindrum.
During the 2013/2014 season, he became the first player to make 100 centuries in a single season and in winning the 2015 UK Snooker Championship, also became the first player to make a maximum 147 break in the final of the tournament.
